Description

horizontal facade system

The open ventilated façade system consists of solid wooden slats and the black anodized aluminium Derako fixing system that is per project specifically provided with cut-outs for the attachment of our patented stainless steel clips. These clips are attached to the profiles during the production phase. The entire attachment is located on the back so that the appearance of the wood stays intact for a long time. Additionally, no screws or nails are used to prevent any future corrosion stripes and damage to the wood.

Materials

For the façade Derako works exclusively with materials suitable for outside use. Each material has its own unique product characteristics. Per application, Derako will advise which materials and finish best suit your project.

Derako system advantages

  • Environmentally friendly. Wood is the only building material that is 100% CO2 neutral and totally recyclable.
  • The systems guarantee fast and simple assembly.
  • Technical support. Projects are technically supported and developed.
  • A flame retardant treatment in according with EN13964 is possible.
  • Using certified and preserved materials.
  • Budget flexible and because of modular delivery very suitable for prefab building.
  • Integral guarantee

Specifications

Sizes

lineair open
The slats in the façade system can be produced in the following sizes: 65 mm to 140 mm wide and 18 mm to 40 mm thick. The minimal width of the joints between two slats is 7 mm. The exact sizes depend on the chosen profile direction and will be looked at per project. In a horizontal application the slat will be produced including a rhombus profile. This ensures correct drainage. Each application determines the length of the slat, depending on the design, material selection and availability. For the connection between two slats on the same row, a distance of at least 7 mm must be kept to prevent the capillary action of precipitation.

Wind and weatherproof

The entire construction is resistant to against extreme weather conditions. Fixing solid wooden slats to the clips has been extensively tested and has a high breakout force. Depending on the type of wood chosen, the site with reference to the wind, terrain category, and the height of the building, the reciprocal distance for the Derako fixing system ( maximum 600 mm) can be determined. On the basis of this data, the required fixation strength and the fixation method of the profiles on a sufficiently rigid basis are determined.

Application

facade horizontal

Horizontal Positioning

When using the horizontal façade system the wooden slats have a standardised Rhombus profile so that proper drainage can be guaranteed. The Rhombus slats are 18 mm thick and their width varies from 70-140 mm. The horizontally implemented system can, if so desired, be fitted straight onto the surface of the building structure. Derako supplies a shallow façade package for this.

facade vertical

Vertical Positioning

The vertical façade system can be profiled in varying thicknesses with a minimum of 18 mm, and also in varying widths with a minimum of 65 mm. This provides maximum freedom of design or dimension. The exact measurements always depend on the type of wood, availability of raw materials and the application area. When mounting the Derako fixing system one must keep in mind that this requires an extra facility on the building construction background to ensure proper drainage.

Curved façade

Besides horizontal and vertical façades it is also possible to use the façade system in a curved shape.  The black anodised aluminium profiles are then shaped with a radius from 0,75 m,  and can be placed internally or externally.  When determining the radius one should take the size of the slats into account. The smaller the radius the smaller the potentially applicable wood size.

Finish / installation

The wooden slats can be finished in various designs, such as planed, finely sawn and roughly sawn. For a better adhesion of our lacquers we recommend a fine-cut finish for outdoor applications. The correct finish for your façade application can be determined in consultation with Derako advisers.

fire retardant

Flame Retardation

Fire safety is an important element for every wood application. To comply with fire safety regulations, the Derako systems can be treated to be fire retardant if necessary. This is done by means of the vacuum and pressure method in which a fire retardant agent is impregnated into the wood.

With these treatments, Derako ensures that the slats and panels used as cladding / finishing material comply with the European Standard EN13964. The treatment process is carried out according to KOMO guidelines and is periodically monitored by SKH which means the necessary CE marking can be employed.

finishFinish

For the finish of the available types of wood and materials Derako uses high quality lacquers that are very suitable for exterior applications. A large palette of colours is available. Per application the correct system structure necessary to protect the wood is determined  It is of course also possible to install the wood untreated.

Application façade foil

Behind the Derako façade system a façade foil can be placed to protect the façade or to realise the desired colour scheme. Façade foil is not used in between the individual slats in the façade system.

Construction and assembly

The Derako fixing system consisting of anodised aluminium profiles, including stainless steel clips, is supplied project specifically and pre-fabricated. They are easy to align and, with the specially supplied gloves, snapping the slats on can be started immediately. This greatly reduces assembly time at the building site. In complex projects, the profiles can also be marked to indicate the correct position in the work. Because the stainless steel clip is permanently locked into the groove on the back of the slat, no nails and screws are required, which eliminates the possibility of damage and corrosion stripes. The stainless steel clip is made out of AISI 301 stainless steel. For a strong corrosive environment there is a steel clip available that can be given an extra coating. Also, the standard black aluminium profile can be anodised in different colours. Under the 'Downloads' tab you will find our detailed installation manual.

Disassembly

Although the stainless steel clips are permanently secured in the groove at the back of the slat, the clips are removable from the profile. This makes the façade system a completely demountable system and one slat can be removed if it is really necessary.

Sustainability

Wood has a limited environmental impact

Wood is a natural product, very durable and lasts for years. Industrial wood processing has a very limited environmental impact and wood itself stores CO2. This helps of course to deliver environmentally friendly, healthy and responsible products. But Derako does more ...

cradle to cradleCradle to Cradle®

Derako constructs and works according to the Cradle to Cradle® principle that not only looks at our present needs but also at the possibilities for future generations. Within the five Cradle to Cradle defined quality categories, we are constantly working on improvements.

A+ certified

Derako wants to be sure that all products have a lasting positive influence on human health and the environment. A lot of thought is given to the system- and finishing materials. For example the Derako varnish finish is environmentally friendly and the Derako solid wood system has a very low emission and A+ certified.

FSC® and PEFC certified types of wood

In addition to investment in the field of materials and production processes, Derako also invests in various certificates and eco- labels. In this way we meet the criteria set by the government on sustainable purchasing. Derako is FSC® and PEFC certified and delivers systems on request, and where possible we deliver sustainable and certified types of wood. The advisors at Derako will be delighted to let you know about all the options.

BREEAM and LEED

Derako also has a number of system designs that can make a substantial contribution in obtaining credits from BREEAM and LEED. Derako's advisors will be delighted to inform you further.
