Description
Solid woodDerako works exclusively with solid wood. Each type of wood has it´s own natural characteristics such as colour, grain, structure, knots and size tolerance. Derako system advantages
Read more about the application and durability advantages in the tabs of this product item. Also, you can consult the menu item ´Visitor type´ in the top right hand corner. ApplicationInterior ceilingAll versions of the Derako solid wood linear multi panel system are suitable for use as an interior ceiling. For this application the joints between the slats of various dimensions, are covered with an acoustic non woven tissue. Normally black non woven tissue is used, but grey and white are also possible. The linear multi panel system is suspended from a specially developed carrier system of galvanized steel rails with clips. This rail system is completely invisible. Because of a wide choice of types of wood, rail grid sizes, slat sizes and finishes there are a number of possibilities for the appearance of the ceiling. The Derako advisers will be pleased to inform you about the possibilities. Exterior ceilingThe solid wood linear multi panel system can be used outside below a canapé in several variants. The wooden slats are then finished for exterior use. The acoustic non woven tissue is replaced by a hard spring (black aluminium profile). The carrier system must be fitted to the ceiling of the building structure with rigid materials. Curved ceilingThe solid linear open system is ideal for use in curved or arched shapes. The architect's creativity is the guiding principle and the system itself is not a limiting factor. Just as with a flat application, the unique carrier system comes completely prefabricated. The rails are fixed and shaped in advance in the factory to the desired radius. They can be suspended with quick action hangers or nonius hangers. Specials![]() Naturally Curved WoodThanks to the Derako carrier system and technical adjustments to the product, it is now possible to shape the wood for the slats naturally. Unlike curved ceilings where the carrier system is bent but slats remain straight, for this version of the system the curving is in the wood itself. In this way very special, organic and never displayed before, ceiling shapes can be realised. ![]() Varying measurementsBy combining slats of varying thickness and width, you are able to give the ceiling a unique appearance. A random pattern ensures further reinforcement of the natural and casual effect, while there is a big choice of wood types and measurement combinations. Finish / installationThe wooden slats can have a planed, fine-sawn or rough-sawn surface finish. Depending on the request, the right type of finish can be selected in consultation with the Derako consultants. ![]() Fire retardant treatmentFire retardance is an important element for any wood application. To be able to comply with fire safety regulations, Derako systems are treated, if necessary, so that they are fire retardant. This is done by means of the vacuum and pressure method, whereby the wood is impregnated with a fire retardant substance. With these treatments Derako makes sure that the slats and panels, used as a coating/finishing material meet the European standard EN13964. The treatment process is performed according to KOMO guidelines and is periodically inspected by the SKH so that the required CE marking can be employed. ![]() FinishThe wooden slats may have a planed, fine-sawn and rough-sawn surface finish. Derako solid wood ceiling systems are finished as standard with high-quality varnish to protect the wood against moisture, dust and dirt. What is involved is a non-film-forming varnish that penetrates deep into the wood. Alongside the standard transparent varnish, there is also a wide range of colours available. The finish adds a nice touch to the wood and the natural tones and structures of the wood are preserved. For each application, the right system coating is determined that is necessary to protect the wood. ![]() Colour Wash varnishes – Lively SOHO colours and sparkling Metallic WoodIf you want to do something special with coloured varnishes, Derako has the Colour Wash varnishes that will give the inside of your building that unique touch. The varnish finish series is split into two colour lines known as SOHO and Metallic Wood and is used on American ash. The SOHO colour line stands for vivid colours and with a Metallic Wood varnish finish, you can create wooden ceilings and walls with a sparkling metal finish. You can decide how the varnishes are used within the design. Using inserted coloured panels, striking accents can be created in a ceiling or wall or the whole thing can be given a uniform colourful finish. Read more about Colour Wash varnishes. Construction and installationAs far as the installation is concerned, the closed linear system meets both the designer's and installer's demands. For the specially developed carrier system the rails and clips are put together in the correct structural grid lines and dimensions, in the factory. The carrier system can be project specifically coded to contribute to a fast and simple installation on site. With this method of attachment the wood can, within the tolerances of a natural product, retain its natural behaviour without harming the ceiling's line structure. The carrier system can be fitted with quick action hangers or nonius hangers. Light fittings can be built in easily. Derako normally provides a special clamping tool to mount the slats simply to the clips, fixation pins for coupling the slats, rail connectors, spacers and a pot of matching varnish. Under the 'Downloads' tab you will find an extensive installation manual.

Wood is a natural product, very durable and lasts for years. Industrial wood processing has a very limited environmental impact and wood itself stores CO2. This helps of course to deliver environmentally friendly, healthy and responsible products. But Derako does more ...
Derako constructs and works according to the Cradle to Cradle® principle that not only looks at our present needs but also at the possibilities for future generations. Within the five Cradle to Cradle defined quality categories, we are constantly working on improvements.
Derako wants to be sure that all products have a lasting positive influence on human health and the environment. A lot of thought is given to the system- and finishing materials. For example the Derako varnish finish is environmentally friendly and the Derako solid wood system has a very low emission and A+ certified.
In addition to investment in the field of materials and production processes, Derako also invests in various certificates and eco- labels. In this way we meet the criteria set by the government on sustainable purchasing. Derako is FSC® and PEFC certified and delivers systems on request, and where possible we deliver sustainable and certified types of wood. The advisors at Derako will be delighted to let you know about all the options.
Derako also has a number of system designs that can make a substantial contribution in obtaining credits from BREEAM and LEED. Derako's advisors will be delighted to inform you further.
